Mostly original 1990 Vanagon Carat. It has the original three speed automatic transmission and 2.1 engine. Interior is very clean and boasts hardwood floors. I purchased this a little over a year ago and used it as a weekend driver for meets and camping trips. It was parked for almost 6 months when I was in an accident, however it still starts up and goes down the street. It does have an exhaust leak that will need attention, as well as needing tires and other TLC. Exterior Very clean on the outside, has had a respray at some point in time. Body is nice and straight with minimal ding scratches and paint chips. Most prominent paint flaw is swirling and chipping on the back right corner panel from where it looks like a sticker was applied and removed. Very solid example of a mostly original vanagon. Very clean original Carat interior. (Jump seats will not be sold separately, they come with the van). Curtains are also included. Minor stains on the headliner but nothing that can’t be cleaned up. If you know these vans, you know that the Carats are super awesome and highly sought after! Completely original 2.1, needs a slight tune up and some exhaust work to truly run strong again. Perfect for a original restore, or great candidate for syncro. Has original motor, in the last few years I’ve had work done to the van, including having the transmission rebuilt, also a 3 page list of repairs/maintenance done by (Rocky Mountain Westy) out of Fort Collins. I have all the recites for both the Transmission rebuild, as well as all the work done by RMW. I can provide images of the recites and millage for seriously interested buyers. Currently on studded snow tires (also have original rims with highway tires, one is flat and will need to be replaced, rim is fine) I wouldn’t hesitate to drive this rig across country , that said it could use a new exhaust, and has a small oil leak from the pan (needs a new gasket) just don’t have the time. 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia. 2.1L Waterboxer. Water cooled. Fuel Injection. Wolfsburg Edition. Unfortunately it is time to part ways with 'Carol', my 87 VW Vanagon. I'm the 3rd owner and have had her for about two years now. She was my weekend warrior for beach trips until the beginning of this year where I started to use her as a daily driver. I am out of Carpinteria and she has taken me on trips to Huntington Beach and up to Cayucos without issues. Due to a change in work and my personal life, I will need a different vehicle which is the reason I am selling her. I got the van in early Winter of 2022 and it ran very rough. I put in a new (new to me) 2.1 Waterboxer motor with new seals, valves, valve stems (among other upgrades listed below). I took it to Peter at The Engine Company to have my work checked and he made some minor adjustments and said 'this is the strongest 2.1 I've ever seen'. The odometer reads around 130,000 miles but, like most of these Vans, it doesn't work. Oil and filter changed every 5000 miles or 3 to 4 months, whichever comes first. Passed smog without an issue in Spring 2023. Original upholstery and curtains. I have a new floor kit that came with the van that I never installed. 1987 VW Vanagon Project it is a Wolfsburg Limited Edition, grey in color, with a 2.1L engine that was rebuilt at 187000+ miles. The speedometer stopped working around 187000 and was fixed a couple of months after the engine was rebuilt. The mileage on the van is now 220297. The vanagon is an automatic transmission with power windows, door locks and mirrors (the electrical needs to be looked at). It is a Weekender Package which consists of front bucket captain seats, two rear facing bucket seats (which are removable), fold down table, rear bench seat that folds down into a bed and privacy curtains. It has aluminum allow wheels (14x6) with LT195/75 R14 tires. My Father-in-Law bought the van new and it was passed on to us as our family grew. We have most of the paperwork back to the original receipt. The vanagon is running but has an electrical issue that will kill a battery. It also has some dings on the body with a little rust. The vanagon had an air conditioner unit in it but was not kept charged and due to the age and dryness the part that ran the length of the van inside fell (we still have all the parts to restore it). The vanagon was stored for 6 years and we decided to try one more time to get it back on the road. But after other issues in taking care of our house we determined that it is time to let it go and let someone else work on it. The body is in good shape with a few dings. I was planning on working on it and bought a few parts and oil with filter but got too busy taking care of other things. It is a good van when running. It's got a new starter, starter/alternator cable, throttle body, AFM, accelerator cable, water pump, oil cooler, aluminum fuel rails, mansi injectors, new spark plugs and wires, new distributor cap, ignition coil, new clutch, clutch pilot bearing, throwout bearing, aluminum thermostat housing, temp 2 sensor, new metal coolant tank, coolant lines, SS coolant lines, new radiator, new fuel lines, new exhaust w SS muffler, new radiator fan resistor and temp switch. New rear CVs. Landrover mirrors and a strong stock syncro transmission with a fresh rebuild. I get around 250-275 miles a tank. No leaks and doesn't burn oil. Rebuilt syncro transmission/front diff by Mr Gas (Canon City) with 1200 miles on the rebuild. SA oil plates and weddle thrust plate. New VC. New wiring harness installed by Verners New power steering rack, rear passenger control arm and alignment all done by Verners Also comes w 2 extra seats to make it a 7 passenger van. 14inch wheels with 2000 miles on them Probably some other new stuff I forgot to mention. DM me to ask! The neutral Stock radio, stock rear shocks, needs a paint job and some body work. Normal amounts of rust for being kept in CO for the last 20+ years. AC has a leak and is unplugged and heater blower needs replacing. Ac duct is removed.
